January marks the beginning of the busiest booking season. Our experience has shown us that we booked more weddings January through March than any other time of the year. If you have not yet experienced this, it won’t be long until you discover that you will have inquiries for the same date and time. The more ceremonies you do, the more likely you are to encounter this conflict.
Try not to say no to inquiries.
If word gets out that you are never available, the calls will dry up. So will the referrals.
Our best practices included our determination, from day one, to not say ‘no’. We would always try to find a way. Our advantage over other officiants was that there were two of us. By just our second summer, we knew we needed more individuals we could train and equip to become a part of our team.
This was especially important to us because we believed we needed to be good stewards of the contacts we were privileged to have. For us, saying ‘no’ to a wedding was not as much about lost income as it was about a lost opportunity for impact, inspiration, and influence. It was also a lost opportunity for increase. The more weddings you do, the more it increases your visibility, which in turn translates into more weddings.
Our suggestion is that you find a trusted friend or family member to take our training and build your team.
